How do I apply for an Erasmus exchange at CUT?
You cannot apply directly on your own. First, your home university’s Erasmus Office must officially nominate you. Once nominated, you apply through our online portal, which is open 01–14 July for the Autumn semester and 15–30 November for the Spring semester.
What documents do I need for my application?
A PDF scan of your passport or ID, your official Transcript of Records in English, proof of English proficiency at B2 level, and a digital passport-style photo. Fine Arts and Design students must also submit a digital portfolio of their work.
Academic info & language
Are courses taught in English?
CUT’s primary language of instruction is Greek, but we offer a dedicated catalogue of courses taught entirely in English for Erasmus+ students, along with one-to-one tutorials and English bibliographies for certain pre-agreed courses.
Do I need an English proficiency certificate?
Yes — a minimum of B2 (CEFR). During your application you provide either an official certificate (e.g. TOEFL, IGCSE) or a certificate from your home university confirming your B2 proficiency.
Do I have to learn Greek?
All incoming Erasmus students attend the Greek Language & Culture course (LCE 660) at the Language Centre. It is a great way to integrate into local life — and it counts toward your Learning Agreement with 5 ECTS on successful completion.
What is the grading system at CUT?
A numerical 0–10 scale, rounded to the nearest half unit, with 5.0 the minimum passing grade. A grade of 9.5–10.0 is “Excellent with Distinction”.
Accommodation & practicalities
Does the university provide student housing?
We partner with the Christian Orthodox Church of Cyprus for places at the modern Apollonia Students Halls, at lower rents than the private market. Spaces are limited and allocated first-come, first-served; otherwise you search for private accommodation in Limassol.
Do I need a visa to study in Cyprus?
EU/EEA citizens do not need a visa, but for a stay over 3 months you apply for a Registration Certificate (Yellow Slip). Non-EU citizens must obtain a Student Entry Visa before arrival — the Erasmus Office guides you through the process once you are accepted.
Do I need health insurance?
EU/EEA citizens bring a valid European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) for state healthcare. Non-EU citizens must buy comprehensive private health insurance covering repatriation and emergency medical expenses before arrival.
Student life
Is it true there is a free daily lunch?
Yes — the local Greek Orthodox Church prepares and sponsors a free, warm lunch every day of the semester for all incoming Erasmus students.
What is there to do on campus?
Dozens of student clubs from robotics to photography, completely free access to the University Sports Centre (gym, tennis courts, aerobics), and regular Student Union excursions to the mountains and beaches.
